Elizabeth Chosa, DVM
Dr. Chosa was born and raised in Johnson City, TN. She obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia & her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. She served on active duty in the the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps for 5 years. After her honorable discharge in 2010, she moved to Brevard County and worked as an associate veterinarian before purchasing Courtenay Animal Hospital in March 2012.
As practice owner, Dr. Chosa’s focus is ensuring that all patients receive the highest possible level of medical care in a nurturing environment. She emphasizes preventive care & maintaining wellness as the best way to keep patients healthy and happy.
When Dr. Chosa is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her two dogs, Buddy, her beloved mixed-breed rescue dog and Nanci, a retired working dog trained in explosives detection.
Kim Bishop, DVM
Dr. Kim Bishop is a 2012 graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. She practiced for seven years in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to Florida in 2019 with her husband, Nate, and daughter, Lizzy. Her family pets include 2 Dachshunds (Dexter and Fiona), a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Archer), and a cat (Hodgins).
She enjoys working with all companion animals, but she especially loves kitties. She also has a special interest in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and dentistry.
In her free time, Dr Bishop enjoys managing a discussion group for veterinary moms, playing board games with friends and family, visiting Disney World and the beach.
Claire Caruana, DVM
Dr. Claire Caruana is a lifelong Florida girl! She grew up on the gulf coast in Pinellas County, earned her Biology degree at UCF and attended veterinary school at the University of Florida. She worked in both general practice and emergency medicine for 5 years before joining the team at Courtenay Animal Hospital. She is excited to be living and working on the Space Coast!
Companion exotic animals have always been a passion for Dr. Caruana and she especially enjoys working with birds, reptiles and small mammals. She likes the challenge of treating a variety of species and meeting their unique needs. She also has a special interest in dog and cat internal medicine, dermatology and soft tissue surgery. During her first year of clinical practice, Dr. Caruana became certified in Small Animal Acupuncture and she offers integrative and natural therapies along with traditional medical care.
When she is not working, she enjoys yoga, reading, kayaking and spending time with her furry & scaly family members. She has a dog (Pixie), a cat (Lionel) and 4 snakes (Rocky BalBoa, David Bowie, Lambada and Lunch)!
Lauren Kennedy, DVM
Dr. Lauren Kennedy is a 2010 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.
She enjoys working with all companion animals, including dogs, cats, and small pocket pets. Dr. Kennedy’s favorite part of her job is building relationships with her clients and their pets!
Dr. Kennedy recently moved to Florida with her husband Eli and daughter Grace. They welcomed their second baby girl, Cecilia, in the summer of 2017. Other family members include 3 dogs, MacGovern (a Scottie), Crosby (a scruffy mutt), and Clementine (a blue tick coon hound). And last but not least, the 12 year old eastern painted turtle, Tycho.
While away from work Dr. Kennedy loves spending time with her girls, reading, visiting Disney World and the beach.
Christie Dingeman, CVT – Practice Manager
Christie joined our team as Practice Manager in August 2015, after accumulating over 17 years of veterinary experience. She received her veterinary technician license in Virginia in 2002 and relocated to Florida with her family in 2006. She worked as a technician in a local veterinary emergency practice for several years before being promoted to Practice Manager. When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and their furry family! Her family includes 2 dogs, Ziggy and Zazu, a cat named Casper, and a bird named Deedee. She also enjoys the beach, fishing, traveling and horseback riding.
Dawn- Client Service Representative
Dawn is a native Floridian, raised in Cocoa Beach. In addition to being a receptionist at Courtenay Animal Hospital, Dawn is a cat lover and an advocate for Autism Awareness. She and her children, Desirae and Devin, share their home with four cats: Jasmine, Shelley, Tigger and Jessie.
Monica- Client Service Representative
Monica was born and raised in Merritt Island! She is a true animal lover and shares her home with her dogs Bubba, an Old English Bulldog, Rosie, a Toy Poodle, her cats, Buttons and CC, and an Eclectus parrot named Rafiki. Monica has worked as a receptionist at Courtenay Animal Hospital for years. In her spare time, Monica enjoys running, baking and spending time with her husband Chris and children, Nicole and Tanner. She also works closely with the Florida Parrot Rescue group.
Amanda- Client Service Representative
Amanda is a native Floridian, born and raised in Port Saint John. She has worked as a veterinary hospital receptionist for 8 years and joined our Courtenay Animal Hospital family in early 2013. Amanda, her husband Jonathan and their son Jamison live with their four cats, Splotch, Franklin, Orangie and Pigeon. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and gardening.
Donna- Client Service Representative
Donna moved here from the mountains of northeast Tennessee, where she had lived her entire life. She has over 16 years of veterinary administrative and clerical experience and is a wonderful addition to the CAH front desk! Donna and her husband Jerome decided it was time to trade the mountains and snow for the beaches and sunshine. They brought along their two cats (Festus and Clarice) and their Rottweiler (Doctor). In her spare time, Donna enjoys boating on the lake and lazy days at the beach.
Allison- Certified Veterinary Technician
Allison became a licensed veterinary technician in 2004 and worked in small animal practice for nearly 10 years before taking some time off to care for her family. She joined the CAH family as a technician in 2015. When she isn’t working, Allison enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters and rescued Rottweilers Greta & Jake. She also enjoys motorcycles, fishing, camping, horseback riding and travel.
Kari- Certified Veterinary Technician
Kari was born and raised in Wisconsin and relocated to Florida in 2015. She is a certified veterinary technician and has worked in small animal and exotic practices for over 10 years. She has a special interest in animal welfare, behavior and wildlife conservation. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, spending time with friends and family and volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. Kari and her husband have a Springer Spaniel now and her dream is to someday have a small family farm to provide a home for animals in need.
Shannon- Certified Veterinary Technician
Shannon is a lifetime resident of Brevard County. She graduated from the Vet Tech program at Eastern Florida State College in 2011 and worked in shelter medicine until she joined the staff of Courtenay Animal Hospital in 2017. She lives with her husband and a rescue cat named Lil KK. In her free time, Shannon enjoys paddle boarding, beach combing, thrifting and spending time with family.
Jackie- Veterinary Technician
Jackie is a native Floridian, born in Sarasota and living in Rockledge now with her husband, daughter, cat, dog & fat-tailed gecko! She has been a life-long animal lover and is happy to be fulfilling her dream of becoming a veterinary technician here at Courtenay Animal Hospital.
Erika- Veterinary Technician
Erika was born in Florida but raised in Puerto Rico, where she worked as a veterinary technician for 4 years. She moved back to the area in 2018 and is pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian!
Angela- Veterinary Technician
Angela was born in Kentucky but grew up right here in Merritt Island. She started working as a veterinary assistant in 2015 and received her certification as a veterinary technician from EFSC in 2019. Angela also volunteers at the Brevard Zoo and spent one summer volunteering at the Florida Wildlife Hospital. When Angela is not working, she spends time at the beach or the park with her son, Eli, and her dog, King.
